Bid you goodbye

— Win a heart so dear, till death, keeps near. (To a Faithless Husband)

Bid you goodbye, which was not my intention.

Love in the past was pliant like the bamboo fishing rod,

and the tail of the fish, fresh like wet feather.

Bid you goodbye, which was not my intention.

I bid you goodbye because you stand between two stairs.

The oath of eternal love was only to please.

Love can be changed and life can be always in darkness.

I bid you goodbye because you stand between two stairs.

We must part by the royal canal.

Today we will enjoy a feast together.

Tomorrow the waters flow east and we bid goodbye.

We must part by the royal canal.

Although I bid you goodbye, I still linger on our love.

Will years of love dissipate within a day?

You still have a little bit reluctance to leave?

Although I bid you goodbye, I still linger on our love.

Note: It was recorded in the third volume of Xijing Chronicles by Ge Hong of Jin Dynasty: “Xiangru would marry a woman from Maoling as a concubine, and Zhuo Wenjun wrote the poem To a Faithless Husband to bid him goodbye. Then Xiangru was stopped from the marriage because of the poem.”
